Thrilled about her invitation to this year’s Gateway to the Americas Cup competition, Brenna is extremely proud to be a representative of Canada, where she is a fourth-generation, Chinese-Canadian.
It has been about two decades since she chose to shift from a successful performing arts career as a dancer and choreographer to a visual arts career in floristry. But 2014 was the year that sparked a desire for more growth, beyond retail and event design. She was accepted to participate in the inaugural “Ninth Moon” floral design contest at Lan Su Chinese Gardens in Portland, Oregon and was shocked to be named a winner! This truly opened up her eyes to the world of design competition culture and a new perspective of flowers as art.
Since then, additional accolades include 2 more consecutive top prizes for Ninth Moon, 1st place in the Pacific NW Design Competitions in 2016 & 2019 held in Vancouver, B.C., also 3rd place in 2018 and 1st place in the 2019 Maple Leaf Cup in Edmonton, Alberta. She placed 2nd overall in the 2016 Gateway to the Americas Cup in Vancouver, B.C. and has many top 3 placements from several digital online contests as well.
She contributes regularly to Florists’ Review magazine, with tutorials and featured articles and has several works published in floral art book compilations. Her artistry is also spotlighted in public botanical art exhibits, such as Fleurs de Villes shows since 2017.
As a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers since 2009, she has been a main stage presenter at the 2016 AIFD National Symposium in Anaheim, CA & as of this writing, will also be on stage at the 2022 Symposium, “Roots” in Las Vegas. She has been serving on the Northwest Chapter Executive Board since 2019. Her pull into the role as an educator for the past six years has presented invitations that have taken her to many places in North America, beyond her home base of Vancouver, B.C., to perform demonstrations and teach workshops, many focused on the subject of creativity.
Sharing her knowledge, inspiring originality and practicing more eco-conscious methods of designing are her focused intentions.
