Bio
I have loved flowers as far back as I can remember. Right after high school, I took a few classes at a local floral school. The instructor there told me the best way to learn was to get a job at a shop, so that's what I did. I didn't know there was such a thing as floral competition, until about 10 years into designing. My friend, Sherry Moon, encouraged me to enter into a local competition and after that I was hooked. I enjoy the challenge and learning new things. I have worked for several different shops and freelanced over the years. In 2012 I purchased a shop with my former boss and business partner, Michael Byrne. It's called Bloom With Jenna and it's located in Grayson, Georgia. www.bloomwithjenna.com
What Is Your Approach To Design?
My approach to competition design is to come up with a solid plan, but be flexible. The principles and elements are always in the forefront of my mind. And I like to practice a wide variety of techniques, so that I have a pool of ideas to fall back on. And finally if I can't define why the product needs to be in the design or how it improves the design, I leave it out.
What Do You Love About Competing?
I love competing because it gives me another opportunity to create beauty. I like the sense of accomplishment from completing something difficult. And I think it's amazing to see what different ideas people can come up with, given the exact same product.
