Bio
For close to a decade, Vivian Liu has been gradually making a name for herself within the Canadian floral design community as a unique and innovative floral designer. With her extensive past working in various forms of design and a personal passion for fashion, Vivian has cultivated a familiarity with aesthetics that shines through in her floristry.
As the owner of Arbutus Florist in Vancouver, Vivian Liu continued to creatively explore the boundaries of floral design whilst juggling the responsibilities of being a small business owner. On the side, Vivian finds opportunities to grow her passion for floral design by entering competitions and shows that help to challenge her creatively. She is the honourable recipient of various floral design awards and has recently represented Canada by placing 3rd in the AIFD's "Just Make It Pretty" contest.
What Is Your Approach To Design?
For Vivian who has has spent years working in various design sectors, the signs of good design seem to be attributed to practicality and aesthetics. As such, when designing, Vivian is attentive so that she can create a beautiful arrangement at no risk to the longevity of the flowers. Her design approach is thoughtful and meticulous but her love for colour and free-flowing form shows through within her work.
What Do You Love About Competing?
The aspect of competing that Vivian loves the most is the passion rejuvenation. Preparing for the competition is a time to rediscover how one initially fell in love with floristry. It challenges you to be creative and to think about your own style. It also invites you to pay more attention to the ongoing trends and talent within the floral design industry. The potentiality of winning is a bonus on top of being recognized and chosen to compete amidst your fellow talented peers.
